CONSTRUCTION TIME!!

March 2025 --- We are looking forward to beginning construction on our museum in March of 2025, as long as plans continue to fall into place.

MOVING OF THE BARN

The Heart of the Atchafalaya Museum recently hauled this beautiful old barn donated by a generous person from White Castle, La. The barn will be used on the museum site to showcase historic farming equipment and tools.

It wasn’t difficult to transport but first the barn roof needed to be removed, and the interior braced for a safe journey to the museum property. Slow and steady the barn made its way down the road. Simoneaux Home Movers made the transport look effortless.

The barn was located just south of White Castle along Highway 69 in the Samstown area. It was on Luke B. Babin family property. It was built around the 1940’s out of cypress and long leaf pine but fell into disrepair until 2012 when it was reconstructed using the original cypress but new pine. It was used as a working barn until 2022.

The Heart of the Atchafalaya Museum was very excited when we were contacted with this donation. The property is currently being prepared for the barn’s final resting place but it stands proud in its temporary location on the museum property.

Progress is slow and steady but it’s still progress! Check back for more updates!!!
